Washing and sterilising of feeding equipment is very important. It is also very important to have clean hands when handling feeding equipment or preparing formula.

Make sure the sides or seams are well cleaned. You just need to push it really firmly in and concentrate around the top and around the bottom.

Is there a certain way I do it?

No just as long as you're cleaning really briskly because we want to make sure that there's nothing left inside there because any residue can make a difference when you're trying to sterilise the equipment.

Just get right up inside that teat and make sure that you get all the rims round the outside because milk can dry and cause a coating and you want to make sure it's all gone.

Well done.

And rinse it as well?

Now rinse it in hot water.

And the casing the same, making sure you go right in around the centre

Your newborn baby is at risk of infection so you must wash and sterilise all feeding equipment to kill any bugs until your baby is 3 months old.

Roimata, it's really important that we sterilise the equipment really well and obviously we've gone through the boiling technique because that suits you but there are different types of sterilising, there's ... you can use a tablet form and soaking and you can use microwave sterilisers and they're all available obviously from, um, pharmacies. Um, whichever form of sterilisation that you use, it's really important that you follow
the instructions that are on the um, container ...

Yeah.

... to the maximum really because we do want to make sure that the preparation and the sterilisation is optimal for this little person.

After 3 months, thorough washing and rinsing is enough.

Always wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water and dry them on a clean cloth or paper towel before sterilising the equipment or making your baby's formula.
