Key points about tube feeding in childhood cancer

  • sometimes, if your child has lost a lot of weight or has not been eating very well for a period of time, they may need tube feeding
  • tube feeding helps your child to meet their nutritional needs when they are not able to eat or drink enough by mouth
  • tube feeding involves delivering a liquid feed through your child's nose (nasal tube) or stomach (gastrostomy tube)
  • sometimes, your child can also have their medications through the tube
  • tube feeding can make it easier and less stressful for you all in your efforts to make sure your child has enough to eat
