There are 3 types of treatment commonly used to manage cancer in children: chemotherapy, surgery and radiation therapy.
What are the different types of treatment?
There are 3 main types of treatment for cancer in children:
- chemotherapy - this is treatment with medicines (prescribed pharmaceutical drugs)
- radiation therapy
Once your child's cancer doctor establishes what kind of cancer your child has, they will decide the type of treatment that your child needs. They will discuss this with you. The doctors will base their decisions on research findings on the most effective treatment for your child's particular type of cancer.
Your child may receive 1 or a combination of the 3 main types of treatment at different times in their therapy.
